Site-ul revistei Variety ne anunţă că Universal va realiza adaptarea cinematografică după BioShock şi că Gore Verbinski va produce filmul (a realizat deja The Ring şi trilogia Pirates of the Caribbean). Gore discută de câteva luni despre acest proiect cu Ken Levine, lead designer la 2K Boston şi creatorul universului BioShock. Scenariul filmului va fi scris de John Logan, autorul scenariilor lui Gladiator, The Aviator, Sweeney Todd şi Star Trek: Nemesis. Gore a fost impresionat până la ultimul neuron de „forţa narativă” a lui BioShock, aşa că că nu a mai stat pe gânduri şi a acceptat să realizeze filmul:

    „Of all the games out there, I think "Bioshock" is the one that's the most engaging. I think the whole utopia-gone-wrong story that's cleverly unveiled to players is brimming with cinematic potential.”

    Foarte simpatică este încheierea interviului, unde Gore e de o ingenuitate dezarmantă:
„I’m continually fascinated with videogames as interactive entertainment: this idea that the audience is the protagonist. I think there is a whole form of narrative ready to be born.
It has been fun talking to different designers, going to Blizzard, meeting Ken. I hope to make it up to Valve. "Portal" is one of my favorites. For now, it's just an open dialogue about how far we can push this thing.”

    Pentru un prim contract cinematografic, Take Two nu se descurcă deloc rău! Măcar am scăpat de „standardele” impuse de cel mai bun boxer din regizori şi cel mai bun regizor dintre boxeri, singurele superlative pozitive care îl caracterizează pe nea Uwe Boll (Sergiu Nicolaescu şi Sly Stalone ies din discuţie datorită vârstei).
